New Jersey moves outside borders in new online gaming deal with Delaware
Officials in the online gaming industry have been waiting for some time for the state of New Jersey to move forward with gaming outside their borders. Delaware and Nevada already work together with shared player pools and invited New Jersey, as well as other states that pass legislation for the option. However, New Jersey had yet to make a move in regards to online game play outside their borders, until last week.
It was on Thursday that the state’s Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) announced that a deal between Scientific Games and the state was approved. Scientific Games will be providing players in Delaware with gaming options from servers based in Atlantic City.
The DGE announced that Scientific Games, Caesars Interactive Entertainment, and Delaware Lottery were given regulatory approval which will permit SG Interactive to operate in New Jersey for Delaware residents. SG Interactive is an arm of Scientific Games.
Game content will be offered by SG Interactive via servers that are located in a data center operated by Caesars Atlantic City. The games will then be offered via an iGaming platform of the Delaware Lottery. Only players who are located in Delaware will be able to take part. The deal signifies the very first time an agreement between states involving casino gaming content, rather than poker, has been approved.
The agreement was actually approved earlier in the week and tested before officially announced. The Director of the New Jersey DGE, David Rebuck, commented on the new deal by stating: “This arrangement exemplifies a great collaborative effort between the Delaware Lottery, the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, Scientific Games, and Caesars Interactive Entertainment.”
